SNOW

It has been unusually warm this year instead of several degrees below zero we got some two digit degrees above zero and tons of rain - but the one morning I woke up and it was snowing and my trip to cut my grandma's hedges turned into a nice snow walk ...

extra high road side poles to make sure you find your way in deep snow - seems they won't need them this year.

hexagon quilt grew a lot

As I posted earlier I had some trouble with my "coming home for Christmas trains" - I got there in time. But the waiting for connections and an extra day gave me a lot of time to keep my fingers busy.

wonders of the postal services

As I was the lucky one to win Dinna Jessie's giveaway I was even more fortunate that the postal service managed to deliver the package to my doorstep on the morning of the 24th.

And this was inside:

please hold the line ---- tüdelüdelüüüüü

Thanks to the strike by the Belgian railway workers my trains home were cancelled. There is no Eurostar entereing Belgium and there are no trains leaving Belgium towards Germany.

So the first idea was to call the Eurostar and ask if I could take another train. Answer: you bought your ticket in Germany - call them.

So I called Germany, to ask them about changeing the ticket. Answer: you have a problem with trains in Belgium, please call them.

Well as I want to be home for Christmas I called Belgium. Answer: We are not responsible, you have to call Eurostar.

So no luck there, and I was back on the phone with Eurostar. Answer: There are still trains via France. But we can't sell you tickets beyond Paris. So you better call France or Germany to get another ticket.

Imagine my joy being on the phone with Germany again. Answer: You can buy a new ticket, but there will be no refunding.

That is no option wiht a new ticket costing a bit less than my monthly allowance.

Finally a last desperate attempt - a journey to St Pancras International to the ticket office - and suddenly everything became fine.

A little later than planned - but I should manage to be home for Christmas.

Home for Christmas?????

The Belgian Railway workers decided that thursday before Christmas would eb an excelletn time to go on strike. Unfortunately my train was supposed to go through Belgium which means - it's cancelled. I haven't heard back from any of the many contacts I wrote to and can just that Iwill manage to get back home in tiem for Christmas.

paper hexagon quilt is growing

I'm finished with the flowers - that is the fabric I used for the flowers is all used up, I may have to get some more. I've been lately using my bus journeys to get a lot of sewing done, now I'm at the stage of sewing the flowers together with a white border. which means once again cutting hexagons ....

Update: I finally have access to my pictures again

Bodleian Library

Applying all over for internships gets you into a lot of places. And it got me into the Bodleian Library, where I got a lovely behind the scenes tour from the Music Librarian.

Stars are coming my wayyyyy....

I will just use this opportunity to thank all those taking part in the SMS-giveaway, I had a fabulous time "wandering" around new blogs, even spend some of my lunch breaks there.

And now special thanks go to Solveig of Sols(tr)ikke , who made some lovely stars that I was lucky enough to win. As I'm not going to "steal" any of her pictures visit her blog to have a look at them.

Now I can go back to making last stitches and my batch of not yet finished christmas cards that go with the presents.

for a quilt blog is a quilt needed

(120 x 200 cm)
well obviously it's not yet finished - I blame that on my absolute inability to chose how to quilt ... but i guess every beginner has to struggle through that first low ..
