slow August

Today I'm combining the Fresh sewing day from Lily's Quilts  with joining the Inaugural Get together of the slow quilters

August was one of my more productive months though not everything was quilt related

W.I.P. wednesday

I have a finish - as of yesterday night:
And I took it to America* to take some pictures

I wanted to enter the leaf into Michel's weekely contest, would be nice if at least one person could take a heart and give me a vote, just so I don't feel too embarassed -  I have no idea if I'm good enough for those kind of contests ... but it can't really hurt.

And of course a ton of WIPs that I will never finish I fear

a pinwheel / mill block scraps quilt (ages old) that I finally got around to baste now all I need are ideas for the quilting

Introducing a (for me) traditional food

I asked for a traditional food in the "Holidays are Over - back to school blog hop give away" so I thought maybe I should offer up a traditional food too.

Krautnudeln
 cabbage pasta / pasta with cabbage

Kratnudeln - cabbage and pasta

You need for the pasta (equals 600g dried pasta):
* 500g flour
* salt
* 1- 2 eggs (or none)
* 1/8 l water (equals 4-6 filled half egg shells)

(You are all quilters so you know your math - use it to get the right amount, or just let the rest you don't need dry up completely and store for another time). Ehh yes sure you can also take the short cut and just use store bought broad/wide pasta - but that's cheating!

cuttingMix it all and knead very well, you should end up with a big ball of ver firm, even textured dogh.
Cut in 4-6 pieces and roll out very thin, cut in stripes (not using your rotary cutter, but freehand knif cutting. Leave them to dry off a bit
Cook in boiling water 5-10 minutes depemding on how thin/thick your pastas are, take out of the pot and into a bowl with warm water
For the cabbage:
* 1- 2 onions - chopped in tiny pieces
* cabbage - a normal sized cabbage use 1/4 per person, sliced (that's a teeny tiny fresh tipped cabbage on the picture)
* salt, pepper

Fry the onion until a little brown, add the cabbage, let that get a little brown too, then turn the heat on low for another 15 minutes or so, add salt to your taste
Top off with fresh ground pepper

Bon Appetit!

the holidays are over giveaway

I'm joining in for the - well I find it a rather dpressing reason - back to school give away blog hop that Michelle from the Quilting Gallery is hosting.

I laways enjoy entering give aways but I do feel a bit guilty doing so wihtout offering a chance in return.

So I still have holidays, sort of, officially, in a way ...  which means at the moment having even less time to do the things I wanto to do. So I didn't make anythign myself for this one.

Back to scholl blog op party and give away

Anyway - what do I have on offer - nothign special really, it's an embroider your own shopping bag kit. It's still in it's original wrapping, so all the parts are still together. I'm not much of an embroiderer myself, I only go as far as to stitch my lables by hand. Ohh and some chocolate if you want, I was home recently and I couldn't resist a trip to "Ritter Sport" and now the fridge is full of chocolate .. dark mousse au chocolate, winter crisp, crisp flakes, white nut ... molten chocolate still tastes like chocolate - for all those in still warm parts of the earth.

chocolate
the white wrapping means try out chocolate varieties for the winter season

The rules etc  (I really enjoy making up rules)
* the one loop you have to jump through I would like to know a traditional dish for the area you come from (I think that is fair)

* and as usual a second entry if you can give me a convincing reason (sorry following me on FB doesn't count I don't have a page there)

* international entries are welcome

* the give away runs from post publishing date (I can't be bothere to find out what time noon EDT is in my time zone) until September 2nd late evening (I'm leaving for a trip on the 3rd and I wouldn't want you to hang in the dry for days not knowing who made the draw)

holiday update

I spent the last few days visiting a friend in Trier doing a little detour driving home.

Trier market place with back yard church

just the "flower market" with a  lovely church in the back yard of a few old houses

Trier "Kaisertherme"

"Kaisertherme" - emperors bath - a left over from the Romans that established the town (ehhh) many years ago.

Trier

the city is in the Mosel valley, they are famouse there for their wine - that you can see growing there

Trier

almost feels like home with all the mountains and lots of trees - but they do talk strangely there
