It's slow bloggers link up today to finish off the month and it's WIP Wednesday and tomorrow will be Fresh Sewing Day if I don't mix anything up.

This month was - I think - richer in sewing.

I finished my Beginners' Quilt Along top - all the blocks and solved the border problem

Beginners QAL

I finished the Walk the line top

 I started a scrap quilt

Ribbonry - double rainbow

I won this pattern ages ago at a give away and as I'm waiting for batting to finish other tops I thought why not start catching up on aptterns I saved up to make. And as I was given this pattern, it was quite high on my list.
I got the pattern from Candice at The Double Nickl Quilt Challenge

I started fabric picking and cutting in the morning .. then headed out for the afternoon and then did some late night sewing. You can see / guess my Iranian fig (right) and my purple chilli (left) on the window sill.

ribbonry

Well and this morning I was ready to assemble the whole thing - I think I found two points or so taht aren't matching, but I'm not going to repair that - it will just be a sign of "hand made".

ribbonry

Now I just wander wheather I shoudl keep it or let someone else have a joy with it... my sisters might both like it, maybe I should make two of them? but can I make identical gifts? ohh well I coudl make different backings - but can I manage that until Christmas? ahh you see decisions and more decisions...

some more sewing at last

Having talked both my parents into proof reading my paper (there has to be something positive in them being seperated)  I decided it was time for a sunday off - especially as winter started this weekend.

first snow

It's not a lot, but for an area that usually doesn't get a a lot of snow before January it's amazing. (I want to go home I want more snow!!) Mind last weekend we still had about 20°C - that makes it a temperature drop of 20° in a week ... And I won't get my winter gear before November 15th. Well I will just have to use the onion princip and layer my jumpers...

Depression block with a fence

I was in a cleanung mood - I took care of all those HSTs that  I had left from a Depression Block for a swap - and as I wanted the block I sent to stay unique I added the green framing - I sort of like it. Though next time I will remember to make the framing a bit wider ...

scraps

And I did a major clean up in the scrap department. I just sewed pieces together as I pulled them out of the box, then a little ironing trimming and more adding scraps ...

I also added a cheddar border to my Barn Bats - but just in case my swap partner suddenly decides to wander around all the blogs - the picture will have to wait.

And I ordered a lot of batting - I need to start sandwitching ...  good bye new Castle DVD you will have to wait for next month ...

border problem solved

well it was not really a problem - it was more a problem of me not being in a mood to make decisions .. so yesterday evening I just had that idea and started cuttign and sewing.  Yes I know I should have ironed it compeltely for the photo shoot, but I figured was only goign to sew around the border so the outer shashing was all that got ironed - I really don't like it a lot.

Beginners QAL
yes that's a chair in the rigth bottom corner - it is higher than the bed, I might try the desk next

And I worked on my October project ... I tried Elizabeth's barn bats and even though mine look completely different I still like them. Befor and after quilting - you can see how much the colours are off with different light, if you look at the cutting mat. Now I just need to decide on a fabric for the binding (another decision!).

And a question for you:
How do you make your pumkin pie? (I don't want to choose a random recipe from the internet)

once in a while

... I'm fed up with what I have to do ...

done - left for referenceto do

to the left  are things still to include into the text - to the right keepers just in case I need to look again

Aye well I got really really fed up yesterday and got some sewing done. I added the outer blue border to my Walk the Line top - I really like it. I'm still waiting on my batting - not that I would know how to quilt it if I had the batting here and could actually baste it.

Walk the line

Somethign completely else - Claire, mentioned she thought I could use a purple or blue to go with my Beginner's QAL blocks. Well that's an idea of my purple. How about a simple: arghhh no you can do that!!! or a ohh my that's an absolutely lovely combination!! from you  ...

Beginner's Quilt Along

I also started on my October Mini Quilt - for the Doll Quilt Swap - mine is already halfway over the Ocean. I hope those colours qualify as autumnal. I didn't go for Halloween. Where I am Halloween does NOT exist. We have our own not so nice traditional holidays around those days.

And of course my current best friend. He came to me late this summer as a late birhtday present. Since then he spends most mornings beside the bed keeping my book company until he gets into action again after lunch and spends the rest of the day and night watching over my computer and making sure my vitally important USB-stick doesn't wander off. Aye yes he keeps my coffeein level on a constant high.

nothing really new

I do love the autumn I really do - just not when I get drenched in the rain and then get a cold and the whole world seems miserable ...

On the bright side - I did a unhealthy sewing marathon Wednesday night and did the sashing for my Beginner's Quilt Along top (I'm hopefully off trac with the time). I decided on orange sashing with yellow cornerstones. Now I need to debate on the border with myself.

sashed blocks Beginner'S QAL
the picture quality is miserable - it's gray and cloudy and looks like rain outisde

And "home" finally thought of sending me some pictures from the summer ... I do love garden work ...just glad my mother pretty much let's me do as I please

and my sister thought of sending me some proof that we really did cut down the cherry tree ...

P1030157

and I have been cathcing up on a lot of McGyver episodes -  it was my first series ever, Monday to Friday 2:15pm. I was 14 back then, we just got our first TV (and it's still in use). I guess it was an old rerun even then. I'm old but not that old.

and not to forget my Granny who celbrated her 83rd birthday on Friday - sadly I just got to speak to her on the phone. If she's not driving me nuts hinting her windows need a cleaning, or one really should paint the attic windows (which is actaullay not as bad as vacuuming the attic - it's a 2 floor attic, I'm simply refusing to sweep it I like my lungs) I do hold her dear. She just knows I can't say know when she asks for help.

Welcome October

I don't know what the problem was, but I couldn't concentrate on my work today so I took a lot more breaks than usual and ended up catching up with the "Beginner's Quilt Along"

Block 9 - Beginners Quilt Along

Block 10 - Beginners Quilt Along

Block 11 - Beginners Quilt Along

Block 12 - Beginners Quilt Along

Block 13 - Beginners Quilt Along

and that are the twelve blocks I'm thinking of using to make up the front - in a random order that I do not like - far to much apricot in he middle and my hate/love block right end middle row

the 12 for the top

now my firs block for the QAL wants to be seen too - and I just figured he (it) [we tend to give all sort of things a gender in German] would be a good replacement for the unwanted one (left middle row)

the 12 for the top plus oe for the back

Soon there will be one more top to finish ...
