Back in the game

I never knew a !§)$"§Q$§-boss could intrude into my safe sewing space ... anyway after 8 months of talking, complaining, mediating, ignoring things were finally starting to become slightly bettern. Then of course happy news this week for the boss (and me) he won't have to deal with me anymore come december.

It feels like suddenly I have time to sew again and do a whole lot of others things that I sort of put on hold. After a thorough cleaning of the sewing area and a little prioritizing of things that need doing I spend my sunday fighting with the instructions for a swap ... sooo much math ...

Zusammen mit ein paar Geschwistern auf deinem Beutel?

This is going to be part of the "main attraction" of the bag I'm sewing. The backside is already done - but there need to be surprises in life, so that will have to wait till it arrives at its destination. Then I can show the mosaic and the result in all its glory.

I had to sew in a zipper  - I can't remember ever sewing in a zipper without my very knowledgeable mother in "shouting distance". But I won! Ha!

nicht perfekt - gut genug oder Versuch 2?

Yes, I know the corners there could be better, and I shouldn't have chose a light pocket fabric, but apart from that I think it is ok.

Now I'm off to figure out the rest ...

Swap°pen auf Deutsch

It feels like a very long time ago that I signed up for the swap and made the pattern - even made the front and then the stress startedand I sort of did nothing for a long time ... and then the deadline drew close and I sat down and finished the thing.

auf dem Weg ...

and I even did get aroudn to piecing and quilting a back - I used up the trial block and a miss-sewn block and fabric scraps from the front ... I sort of like itin it's own way, tough it looks slightely better if there is no cuchion in the case ...

back ...

It wasfun to sew somethign to someone elses specifications and use fabricsad colours in combinations I would neveruse myself for things I sew for me ...

And this evening I fished the most perfect cushion case out of my mail box - Britta made me the perfect companion to my last swap cushion case and absolutely nailed the orange, purple, red theme with pointy things...

catching up on November

I seem to have turned into a monthly blogger ... I spend my days surroundedby old books and spread sheets .. weekends I spendgetting order in the spread sheets .. so there was not a lot of sewing ...

I did get a head start on some bee blocks for next year and finished the ones for this year ...

St. Louis 16-patch for Suzie

Friendship star for Pippa

Scrappy Heart for N.

low volume churn dash

But you see not much "qualitiy time" with my sewign machine so I had this great idea to do a sewing sunday ... ehem yeah .. I spend my Sunday on a road block telling cars you turn around and head for the motorway, cyclists and pedestrians to go right and follow the road blocks .. and they shoudl eventually turn up in the town centre and NO that busstop behind me is not in service ... The highlight was a visit from a grandma granddaughter team bringing the poor frozen person some hot coffee

Yea so I didn't get much sewing done on Sunday but I got some headway on my swap-item

maybe a dark blue instead of the light green ...

And most importantly I started on my winterly QAL ... again .. it's my Christmas thing that I never finish until the next hmm 3 Christmases are over ... though I didn't ge much more doen than some alibi blocks ... now maybe I will manage to just cut some more pices for the units ...

alibi blocks

And some time in November I pulled out some of my favourite treasures that I am giong to use to make my centre block for a "Round Robin" quilt ... now I just need to decide on a pattern and actually sew it ..

viel Geliebtes .... auch wenns nicht ganz zusammen passt ...

luckiestestest day this week

I could have kissed the post man - if I would have been home wen he came by - he dropped two swap parcels. My Doll Quilt for September and my very special "Swap°pen auf Deutsch" cushion .

Swap°pen - mein Kissen ist da!

Doll Quilt arrival - September 2013

die Rückseite ist fast genauso schön ...

Ahh and I had this crazy idea about finishing up the Red Herrign top ... it works out fine - I might add a row in the future ... at the bottom or the bottom and the sides who knows I don't have batting to finish it anyway at the moment.

Red Herring top

Red Herring top

I decided to go for bigger sashing there because it helps with the shift of the blocks - if you loko at the others with thinner sashing at the top/bottom of te blocks you will see that the "herring bone" pattern gets shifted quite a bit to the right ... I tried to avoid that - the bigger distance with the sashing makes up for that to some degree. Oh and turning the top up sided down helps a lot because it changes the way you look at the shift. [Do I make sense?]

Ohh and I get to drive home and enjoy some motherly cooking - and it's finally autumn - we broke the zero degree margin tonight and we have heavy fog with sight under 50 meters - cycling was hell this morning - the should make pedestrians wear head lamps and reflectors ....

plans for the future

Well by September 16th around noon my summer holidays will start - ok maybe I shoudl say autumn holidays, but it would be really depressign not to have ahd proper summer holidays. Of course I will visit home - but there is not really much to do after "the big storm" aye well maybe some cleaning up, but turning all the left overs under won't take much time so I have been looking out for some Quilt Alongs, Swaps etc. pp. - not that I don't have projects to finish, but I already have a suppor group for that so I think I'm ready to start some new things.

So let's start with something German - do you know how hard it is to write comments in German? my complete Quilting vocabulary is English and I'm just used to do all things sewing in English. Anyway it's a modern swap and it's round 3 - and it's my first time, because the last times I was busy and then I missed the sign up date.  Well this round it's cushion cases. Aye and that's my mosaik, you will see it's typical me - simply not like the others are (the button will get you to the group pool). [Communication is in German - sign ups end Septemebr 10th.]

September Mosaik - lieg ich eigentlich völlig daneben?I´m hosting...

Next up is the Broken Herringbone QAL - even though it's hosted by a rainbow hmm fanatic/ obsessive ... I'm not really into rainbows. And as I used the "unwatned colour ornge" in mini I'm now goign to tackle the next "Enemy Number One" BROWN - aye that bron there in the middle. You know pictures lie, the colours are a bit off. So I will either use the reads below the brown (well maybe not the purplish on at the top) or the "brownish" purples above - probably not the ehh lavendar-ish one ...

reds, brown, purple
the reds really are different reds - do I need a better camera?

Next up there will be the choice between - I don't think I can do both, I'm only human - a paper piecing adventure and a beginner quilt. The first one would be interessting I think, but it could eventually end in a very frustrated me. I'm not suer if I have the ptience for paper piecing so much fizzlicng and cut sew press, cut sew press, think think think ahhh, cut sew press, seamrip think some more ...But it would be a challenge.
The one block wonder is easier to do - well it's straightforward. But I still have some time to decide.
One point in favour of the one block wonder is that it won't start until the end of September.

Hope you all enjoy your summerholidays .. or did enjoy them ... or did enjoy something else ...
