Lazy Bum Global retreat

The Lazy Bums had a global retreat on Saturday to get us all on the way for the January challenge: get blocks from samplers done (Farmer's wife, just takes 2, ....)

Well I had to work till 4 so I didn't get that much done, but I had some fun choosing scraps for the easier blocks of the FW ... yeah I probably should aim for getting the complicated ones done first, but I didn't feel like doing anything that could possibly frustrate me ....

2 - Autumn tints10 - Bowtie

12 - Broken Sugar Bowl11 - Broken Dishes

34 - Flock21 - Contrary Wife

69 - Practical Orchard41 - Friendship Star

71 - Puss in the Corner6 - Big Dipper

70 - Prairie Queen68 - Postage Stamp

So these are my 12 new blocks ... I was under the impression I had 14 new ones ... hmmm maybe I forot some pictures, or I'm just bad at counting ...

For the next few days I need to do a bee block, a doll quilt and have fun ... and then it's back to the serious stuff agian, writing papers and essays...

Northern Lights - Landmädel QAL

Warum hab ich mir bloß den Dezember asgesucht ...auf gehts zum votletzten Block für diese Jahr. Ich hab mich für die Nummer 61 entschieden "Northern Lights".

61 - Northern Lights (L-QAL)

Was braucht man also für einen 6,5" Block:

Stoff A: vier 2" Quadrate und ein 4" Quadrat
Stoff B: vier 2" Quadrate und ein 4" Quadrat

cutting the fabrics

get rid of the bulk in the centre

Ach ja ein Grund warum ich nomal auf Englisch schreib - da ist meine Rechtschreibung um Welten besser ...

Damit ein frohes Fest und ein gutes neues Jahr!

progress report

Well I thought I would just overwhelm you with pictures - I had quite a busy time. Doing an excursion to Bavaria and then having a tournament on Sunday and a presentation on Monday morning. And now having well no voice anymore. So I've been mostly reading and sulking in bed drinking hot tea with honey not enjoying the almost 28°C at all ...

visiting the library & archive of Thurn und Taxis

I started my Farmer's Wife quilt:

Landmädel QAL - calico puzzle

I made a NewBee Bee block that had the wrong colours so I made another one:

NewBee Bee - June block - bear paw

I started quitling "bluegreenpink"

bluegreenpink STD

bluegreenpink - binding

I started adding my June Queen blocks to the design wall

design wall - slowly filling

I started "Spring"

Spring quilt

I made a testblock for my month as Queen - and wrote a tutorial on it - sort of - I will still keep calling them "How-to's"

possible bee block

I didn't  work on:

Landmädel 1 / Farmer's Wife 1

Am Montag hat der Landmädel QAL angefangen und heute bin ich "endlich" dazugekommen meine Version zu nähen. Ich hab mich für die Restekiste entschieden und irgendwie war mir heute nach "sonnig".

On Monday the German Farmer's Wife QAL started and today I finally got around to sew my version. I decided to use my scraps and somehow I felt liek sewing something sunny today.

Well I also got a bee block done - I just did it in the wrong colours ehea yeah ... "jewel tones" are a bit of a mystery to me. So I'm goign to do it again .. but this time I will ask if the colours are right beforehand. What are "jewel tones"?

NewBee Bee - June block - bear paw

Ohh yes I got my May Doll Quilt in the post .. it's really lovely and is sure goign up on my quilt wall - as soon as I find time to sew on the hangers, and get nails in the wall.

DQS - May - Vickie - unusual shape

Sorry I just had to show it again - it's so sunny - and here you can see it's sunny here in real too, we have temperatures in the 30ies - why did I ever think this would be better than the cold spell we had for so long?

a warning and a ranting

contrary to the title the ranting comes first - I do do do do do hate train travels - no matter how relaxing it is not to drive yourself it's really no joy. Innocent me arrived at the train station after a torturing seminary on Kettler and gets the first shock "EC* 7 - canceled" - yep they canceled the train to Basel SBB via Mannheim where I need to change arghhh ...

But do some talking to the rather stressed out station personal and everything looks brighter - there is a fill in train same platform. Hurray! - you think everything is going to be fine. If it only were so - nope that fill in train had 15 then 20 minutes delay and we finally left the station 25 minutes late.

But don't despair, you only have 8 minutes to change but asking for "what is the next train then" you are told that the ICE* you had already given up on is having a 30 minutes delay and you think your day is saved you truly do. But oh joy you arrive in Mannheim and what do they tell you - it's 60 minutes late and counting. So you start quizzing the stressed out and unfriendly-ish personal again "What train do I take instead" - And oh joy the IC *to Insbruck is running late too - 15 minutes so you just have to wait 10 for that one.

Well the end is instead of 1 o'clock you arrive at 2:30pm - your pick up from the station couldn't wait because it had to work so you have to figure out a bus and you are really trully mad at why the never manage to be on time. And there's really just one thing that can brighten the day after that. A surprise left in the cellar:

STRAWBERRIES
now I have Strawberry fields by the Beatles playing in my head ...

* EC - Eurocity train - a fast train stops in big cities and crosses EU borders, is operated by various countries train company/ies, IC - same thing but without the border crossing, ICE an even faster train, only stops in the really big cities (can cross borders)

Now to the warning - I know you have been getting used to my English by now - it's sometimes a little make-shift and open for all sorts of interpretations. Well I just wanted to let you know that I joined a German version of the Farmer's Wife QAL and therfore there might be some German appearing on the blog. Maybe I will set it off in a different colour - you don't need to try to make sense of it. It will really be a different language and not me writing messy English.

I have I think 2 or 3 German readers (that are perfectly abel to read English) ... but I guess those already know about the QAL but hey a button to show is a buton to show:

Ohh and I wanted to show you all the posty goodies that I finally get to enjoy in person - they have either been re-routed or intentionally been sent to "home home" (I wonder when I will stop "driving home" for visits to my mother) so the wouldn't get lost while I moved halfway across Germany.

posty goodies
2 swap mini quilts, several bee blocks and a few FQ treats
