catching up on October

I was a bit busy lately and I did a marathon sewing stint this morning - that I think one of my neighbours interpreted as me having a great party at 10 in the morning with the basses turned way up ... uhh yeah .. I might have to do a quitling session this afternoon and see if she starts complaining again then I know for sure it's me ... I guess I will have to go buy some earplugs for her. Well I did get a good deal of things done by disturbing her peace:

And I also spend some time in the beginning of October drawing patterns and generally haing fun planign quilts I knew there was no chance I woudl ge started this year, well except one of them. The first one is for a "flying geese" hmm bee/swap thingy well and of course I could just use a standard pattern, or any other pattern already out there nooo I had to go and make up my own:

I also had fun drawing up this pattern, and I'm planning on doing it with one of my tartan fabrics (though exactly when I'm goign to it is the unasnwerable question) ... I just need to decided whether I want to use a coordinated solid background or go for good old white ... I am leaning towards the blue, pink, purple, green tartan ...

Storm at Sea

A long time ago .. ok maybe a year or two at most ... I got this great book from Claire. And I sort of fell in love with the black and white pictures which - for me - make it so much easier to fill with my own colours ...
I already used it to make an Irish Chain Quilt - but this one pattern Storm at Sea had caught my attention after the first read through.

The only problem was the measurements given werent really working out so I played around a little ... and because I was getting nowhere I just sewed up all the scraps into a patch - maybe a few more additions and I will have a modern mini?

And then after getting a clear head at sport practice (and well hurting the so far unhurt knee .. the other looks like it belongs to a 5 year old who's learning to ride a bicycle ... not nice .. luckily the newly hurt one is just swelling a little and gettign a purplish-blue hue) anyway I felt like using some sitting down time and had another go at the pattern - this time going the conservative way = paper + pen to crunch numbers ...

I need to work some more on the diamond parts - and get a better feel for the meeting points, esp. the diamond points .... As that block is 6,5" square I am seriously thinking about doing it a little larger, but then of course it would look ver different - I actually like the tinyness ... ohh and yes I know I did mess up the tinier economy block .. didn't use the light blue .... oversight on my part ...

Anyone any hints on doing the quilt? I haven't cut the "real" fabric yet so I still have time to change my plans ...

Goodbye July

Seems another month flew by - time seems to pass faster the older you get. I woudl say July was much more productive than August will ever be. I am officially on summer break - but that just means I need to write papers. (I'm now on my second breakfast break - sort of.) Well after spending 8 hours reading and writing I usually don't feel like sitting down to sew something. So yeah August is going to be an unproductive month.

This is what July was all about - bee blocks .... some more bee blocks  .... and bee blocks - well mostly incoming bee blocks - but I actually did have to sew one to send out ...

I did get started on the binding on this quilt ... well yeah but I haven't gotten much further - didn't really have the time for movie nights - not that I have any new DVDs to watch. But I started two new proects in July - one was more or less voluntary the other was for a swap.

I always wanted to try the irish chain pattern - not necessarily in those colours - I would classify them under "store and pull out if want to insult someone by giving away something ugly" - but yes I do understand that some people might like that sort of colours. It was really ust about trying out the pattern and well using up shirts (blue) and bed linens (apricot and white).

So and now with the beginning of August comes the time to be "royally pissed" (reading books is not good for my manners) at certain persons who forgot my birhtday - aye middle of the month till the end should be enough time to send a card ... or do something else ...

February

Ok panic .. no everything is goign to be fine - I have officially to clear my current digs until the end of March - so far I have a meager 3 banana boxes filled - but hey I have 10 empty boxes waiting. So besides having my exams and now having trouble getting my papers because my one "very dear" Prof can't manage to grade the last exam so a lot of runnign around getting "provisional" statements etc etc ohh how I love running after papers .. anyway I did some sewing

I started "bluegreenpink" (wow I'm creative with the names) - it's stored now in the "finished tops" box (ohh yes I already packed that one, together with the "big enough to make a back" fabric)

I promise I even sewed the rows together, just forget to take a picture before putting it in the box

I started a Starquilt, it was sort of part of my "want to do list" - I wanted to try out more hand sewing but after I had cut all the pieces (not necessarly like they were given in the pattern - I'm not good with patterns) I figured "hey I can do that with the machine" so I did. Now I need to start another hand sewing project. 10 stars together, how to make them

I started and finished my doll quilt for February - and since it arrived during the weekend I can even do a post how about it - I need to do the "get things done early" more often so I don't need to wait until the next month ... I even remembered to do a lable (sorry that is on the back of course).

That's it as far as the NewFO sewign went - I did work on a few old things so I just have to show them off - because one of them was really giving me a headache.
I managed to finish my Easy Street top (yeah you guessed it - it's in the box too)

I attacked my scrap quilt again ... well it will one day become a scrap quilt - it's just hard work, but I think worth it.

That's all I did - well sewing wise - I think so at least ... I did have some pretty good ice cream yesterday ... but that probably doesn't count towards sewing - it was 3 coloured and basted between to waffles though - it was almost an edible quilt ... it made me bold enough to post a picture of me though - sugar high maybe, not really responsible for my actions...

Pheww that was a lot to read for you ... I might  have ruined my chances of getting comments

thunderstorm in January

There is a first for everything. I can't remember ever having seen or heard a thunderstorm in January - It's maybe 5 degrees and we have thunder and lightning and heavy rain and 2 official weather warnings.

First I thought they put up a speed camera - well but they usually don't make a noise. I think I will use the thunderstorm to make myself a cup of tea and do some sewing. And maybe just do the Goodbye January Welcome February blogging part.

NewFO Challenge 2013

Barbara from Cat Patches is challenging us to start a new project (or several) each month. I'm glad I have an UFO group that will take care of finishing some of them.

So my "wish to-do list" - which I can't sort by months yet:

a pattern from a book        -       a french braid quilt       

 

a wonky star in huge        -         that block                 

a double weddign ring       -        a star of Bethlehem  

a welsh quilting quilt          -         something appliquee

I'm sure I will come up with more projecs over the year - I also have some fabrics that I want to find patterns for.
