The big bad ugly

In autumn 2013 there was a one block wonder QAL I was reluctant to join, because I was not really looking forward to buying a big print fabric only to cut it up in pieces ... until I found one of the most ugly fabrics in my (inherited) stash.

I had no qualms whatsoever to cut it into tiny pieces and make a complete mess out of it ... but somehow the fabric worked and I started puzzling and tryign to find placements to get that colour flow within a squarish-shape ...

Once I had finished the toop I had to look for the most fantastic backing ever - I mean with that front, it needed to be extra garish ... and I did find something ... more nightmare-ish flowers

now that I finished quilting ... I need to wait for nice weather to take some shots that show it's grand ugliness in its best light ...

The Red Herring is quilted

I llowed myself a bit of sewing fun tonight - I had a last row to do on my Red Herring and it kept staringat me - that is getting in the way being moved around ...

It was really hard to capture the quilting lines - even though it's black thread on red ...

Finish-Along Q1

I thought I would start off the year with some projects that even I should somehow manage to finish despite this feeling of having no time at all for anything.

So how about some quilting for Quarter 1:

a new round of wrestling

I think - now - it was a really really really nutty idea to quilt this thingy in circles. - Why did noone warn me? fellow quilters are not supposed to let others walk blindinly into circle sewing hell!

no worries the white tape is just for the thump - got hit by a ball and bent a little too much. The white is nicer than the purplish blue though ... the blue band aid on the pinky- well I was really stupid moving my sewing machine over a bit, touched one of the little light bulbs - and I know you are not supposed to put band aids on blisters, but I can't have spots on my white quilt ...

See how so not good the fabric placement is for quitling? I don't know what I did wrong with the initial basting, but I seriously had to re-do it in the corners. Any ideas as to why that happend?

I shall continue with the circling with now newly basted straight corner. That's the reason for an unvoluntary break - but it's time for dinner anyway

welcome spring

Since the weekend the weather is sunny and warm - feels almost hot - well ok it's warm enough for skirts with knee-hights and sweatshirts. And did I mention sunny? and it smells like spring, the first things are blooming - daffodils and snow bells and some of those cherry tress that are just for show. Well anyway the whole spring thingy had me sewing a bit more than the no sewing somethign that's not for a swap or a bee ...

I finally got my monster ready to quilt soem more circles ... just a few more days ... and it could be finished. The other thing I did was work with some wool scraps - very strange thin, flimsy, soft wool. There will be a second set somwhere along the way ... when my sewing machien is free again ...

well I had a little bit of free time yesterday and I started quilting my monster ... and I had some more time this mornign to get a bee block done ...

and of course I've been working a little on my Celtic Solstice

and I got my ticket for the London Book Fair ...

being busy

So I start to feel a little bad posting so much - but hey I finally have some real "time" on my hands so I need to suse it right?! Well I did - Thursday was a holiday and Friday was turned into a "bridge day" so I finished quilting my D9P.

Well some details - try not to see all the loose threads I still need to take care of - I really should look into those meandering-endless designs. Uhh yeah when do I ever do what I should be doing ... why take the easy way if there's a complicated one.

Oh yeah and I think Imentioned using a sheet? bed cover? hmm I can't be bothered to look it up - anyway it's alovely rosé with rosé white flowers and brownish leaves (mind it's NOT pink - I don't do pink - except for very very good friends who know how to make me feel guilty if I refuse)

Well and as I was at the sewing machine - and needed a quilting break I took out a handful of scraps I got in the post that morning and - there it was a pre-cut flower, which I deemed perfect to give my sports trousers a "Ladylike" touch. I would have prefered a red or green and blue striped shorts - but I couldn't find any without pockets so I got stuck with the blue soccer shorts. Well I should have chosen a more girly sport like hmmm volley ball or tennis or badminton and I could get my colourfull shorts/skirts ...

And here a complete shot - ehh and yeah that's the next quilt waiting for the basting pins so I can quilt it - the weather is really miserbale - The "ice holies" start tomorrow and they really want to do right by their name.

And that's it - wll until I finish quilting the next quilt - I just need to settle on a "design".

I was just too busy to write posts during the week - I got a lot of things done:

And I almost ofrgot that I even worked a bit on Easy Street:
see I cut the "extras" that I dutifully ignored so far on step 2 and 3 and I marked a few more of the shaded 4 patches.

weekend sewing

These are my trial "brave new world" blocks

And becuase I was catching up on the flying geese on Friday they belong here too. And the reason why I didn't get to do much mor on the Easy Street bits, I'm done piecing this quilt and I used the ES pieces to get some order in my chain piecing.

Opps yes, the screw must have come loose - the needle didn't come out of the project anymore - but no worries that was a really easy fix - but it was a first timer. I'm almost through with the straight lines. I did stitch in the ditch on the sewing lines that enclose the center fussy cut pieces and now am doing that wriggly-straight line quilting

Of course this weather condition helps
