what do you do when you can't sew

Yeah I really need to give up sports ... but then I love it too much ... maybe I should just refuse to play against the young guys who still are in stages of having problems to control their movements ... aye anyway I did work on some more things - though not on anything on my WIP list ...

With all those green fabrics I've been collecting for "Herrliche Wiese" ... thanks Kathinca for the name I had this idea to sew a miniature double wedding ring cuhsion cover for my cousin ...

now I think I like it too much to give it away ...

So then I thought I could do something easy but effective - because after all not everyone has my taste for colourful stuff ... ok it's still colourful, but at least only two colours taht could fit in somewhere

I rather like it ... but I don't like it so much that I couldn't bare parting with it - and there we are back at the teeny tiny problem of sports. I started some hand quilting on it - stitch in the dicth on the red corduroy and was planning on dark purple utility quitling quitling lines ... but I can't even hold my coffe mug and certainly no needle where precision is needed ... stupid thumb ... Aye and the glasses don't sit too well after my nose lost in a ellbow versus nose match ...

So I think I will unearth this cushion front I did while ago because there I can just use the sewing machine to finish it - ohh and it's ofr sure goign to be a sleve cover because I sure can't pin a zipper in place ... maybe I should two or three tiny patches of velcro...

Yeah I know rrather colourful again ... can't help myself in that department ... and with that I'm off to writing again so it's really hart to remember not hit the space bar with the thumb well the hurt sure serves as a reminder not to ... aye and looking gor somewthing sew-ish where I don't need full finger functionallity ... maybe I can pin baste with my left hand?

I can always plan more new quilts ... pull fabrics ... mix and match them ... or I could spend the day reading ...

Happy New Year

Since some lovely people managed to shoot a fireworks racket into a historic building almost burning it to the ground in the town center a few years ago, it's off limits for fireworks. But that only means we have more on the hills surrounding the town.

I hope you all had a nice Christmas and of course the best wishes for a new Year.

I didn't manage to do this last year so I will show the last Christmas finishes now:

It's not completely done yet (and only fits me with a ton of pins at the back - but then it's not for me so it's ok) - please ignore the socks - well I thought it reasonable to wait with the cutting off and marking the seam until the real owner has time to stand model.

A last minute Christmas present for a dress sewer (the only sewer among my friends, though without a clue about quilting and patchwork) - she complained she always sews for others and noone ever sews for her and asked if I could do her a "Finnland themed" cushion case. Well yes I managed somehow.

That's sadly not my cabinet / closet, but it worked fine to drape the finished quilt for a foto shoot without my mom's slippers (she complained about that "problem" so that was the solution).

And I already have a new finish: a bee block - we were asked for (untrimmed) granny squares

And now I need to prepare for the little monsters - my sisters invited themselves for the weekend - any hints on how to keep a 13 and 11 year old occupied and happy?

I haven't figured out how to do mosaics, so you will have to bear with the assorted pictures above. But one day I will learn it - or not.

Pattern Testing - Flutter from.Kat

Some of you may know Kat, owner of the Diary of a Flutter.Kat Blog and her shop Flutter from.Kat where she sells the most beautiful girls clothing (my sisters have sadly outgrown her size range - and I doubt they would wear a dress, wel lmaybe if I asked them nicely) and accessoirs. Kat decided to design some more patterns for her shop and because I'm such a beginner and no use at sewing [that is my opinion not Kat's] I will test a cushion pattern for her. If  I - together with the pattern - can turn some of my fabric into a beautiful cushion it's proven that the pattern is foolproof and ready for her shop.  

Kat made some really nice cushions so I did feel some pressure  ... but I'm a beginner I'm allowed to make mistakes - the freedom of the fool or so.

I started my preparations by buying an "inch ruler"  - not surprisingly all my other rulers are in centimetres. I owuld love to show you my first cushion, but well it never made it into existence. When it came to making sure my front panel was 15 X 15 inches I .. errrr .. mixed up my rulers and without thinking cut at 15 cm  (blushing here from embarassment). My second try went rather well I would say. Apart from my wonky straight lines and imperfect waves.

my first patchwork ever

Together with the scarf pictures from yesterday I got a pictures of my first patchwork ever. A cushion case made from upholstery fabric - partly left overs from a re-doing of our chairs, and the rest from a sample blook from a sofa store. 

Now I would love to make some new cases but my mom will not have it - it was a surprise back then, got me in some trouble for using the upholstery fabric for the chairs. To excuse the ehh uneven sewing and crooked lines, I was still in elementary school back then, and I was absolutely not allowed to use the iron when no one else was present. Ohh and I didn't know the terms "patchwork" and "quilting" back then.
