someone's been busy and yet nothing's been really done

I don't know why I always have 101 projects at the same time. Good new is one of them is Queen Bee project so I don't actually have to sew for it. So aside from writing my paper (#1) I did some sort of handycraft each day. I have that handy sort of alarm clock that so I do a break every hour for at least 15 minutes ...

So I did sew some more blocks for GREEN (I'm absolutely pathetic when it comes to thinking up names for my quilts - maybe I shoudl call it "Wiese" (pasture) or even "Hope" ...

first August blocks arriving
the first quadrants arrived today

it's growing
together with the mine - layout is still undecided

I started an appliquée project that looks a bit tricky - but hey I can do it .. I just need to want to enough for long enough. (I'm sure I can get Kathinca to kick me in the behind from time to time if needed) .Well I went for purple/pupleish/bloodred/rosewood this time - creating my own personal purple hell - Lila Hölle. And as I'm a miserable planner I change my plans a lot ...

handpiecing ...

.. I haven't decided on a background yet  - that is I originally pulled a cream /off white solid, because I really have a lot of it but somehow this print that I found in one of those "end of bolt boxes" (it's almost a metre but not quite) at a fabric store in town seemed like a nice background to take the picture and then I tough -well it doesn't look too bad as a background either ... but I'm not sure - arghh. [They do have another bolt of it so I could get more of it .. ]

But I also almost finishd a quilt - ok the quitlign has been finished since the end of July, but my original plans to quilt it on a train trip home for a wedding somehow didn't work out - on the way there I had to read through a Master thesis and add my comments and on the way back I had my little tin box with needle and thread busried deep, deep down in my backpack - couldn't find it so I just grabed a book. But I have been working on and off sewing on the binding ...

diagonal quilting

I finished all my Joan Hickson as Miss Marple DVDs though, so late night progress was rather slow. But I got a box of Hercule Poirot movies yesterday so maybe tomorrow I'm on again.

differently coloured threads

Just showing that I used differently coloured thready to quilt ... yeah I know, I know the lines aren't completely straight, but I guess ones it's been in the washing machine there will be too much crinkling to notice it ... on the solids I marked the lines with a chalk pen, on the pieced parts I just "eye balled" (I know bad manners etc) ...

Yeah I still also have my Storm at Sea the regular UFOs and now a absolutley new project that I have no idea how it's going to look like yet apart form it being a cushoin cover, there are simply too many weddings this year. Let your pattern ideas flow ...

Ohh and before I forget it - I do would love some more critique please  ~ I will not not like you, I will not be mad at you, I will not ignore you and I certainly won't delet your comment if you write something that is not 100% my opinion ... so like the blue-green polka dot in the middle of the upper row in the green quilt I really think it shouldn't be in there it's odd.

Storm at Sea

A long time ago .. ok maybe a year or two at most ... I got this great book from Claire. And I sort of fell in love with the black and white pictures which - for me - make it so much easier to fill with my own colours ...
I already used it to make an Irish Chain Quilt - but this one pattern Storm at Sea had caught my attention after the first read through.

Storm at Sea
Marguerite Ickis: The standard book of quilt making and collecting

The only problem was the measurements given werent really working out so I played around a little ... and because I was getting nowhere I just sewed up all the scraps into a patch - maybe a few more additions and I will have a modern mini?

scrap sewing - a modern mini?

And then after getting a clear head at sport practice (and well hurting the so far unhurt knee .. the other looks like it belongs to a 5 year old who's learning to ride a bicycle ... not nice .. luckily the newly hurt one is just swelling a little and gettign a purplish-blue hue) anyway I felt like using some sitting down time and had another go at the pattern - this time going the conservative way = paper + pen to crunch numbers ...

trying myself at a traditional block

I need to work some more on the diamond parts - and get a better feel for the meeting points, esp. the diamond points .... As that block is 6,5" square I am seriously thinking about doing it a little larger, but then of course it would look ver different - I actually like the tinyness ... ohh and yes I know I did mess up the tinier economy block .. didn't use the light blue .... oversight on my part ...

Anyone any hints on doing the quilt? I haven't cut the "real" fabric yet so I still have time to change my plans ...

batting, fabric, batting, fabric, ...

He Loves Me - He Loves Me Not

I couldn't really blieve my eyes today- after paying the fees for the next semester there is actually something left to spend on fun things - so now I need to decide, faric for new things or batting to finish old things ...Well while I trouble my brain with that luxury problem I used up some of my stash and scraps - or are scraps considered stash?

scrap farm is growing

And here they are all together - a great way to use up scraps, though it will be a tough time choosing a sashing that won't clash with all the colours ... and no there is no way I'm going to use white ... ohh and I still need to add a handle to my basket.

progress report

This week ther is much less to report progress on ... yeah I sort of dug my teeth into something I knew I had to finish because the colours give me the creeps - but hey I'm a Swabian we don't throw away things just because we don't like them - if they can be used they will be used.

top done - border?
the whole thing measures 47 x 62 inches ...
and I have no idea what to do with it now - any ideas for a border?
It all started with some blue shirts that the local THW - Federal Agency for Technical Relief was "throwing out" and some old bed linens I had lying around in apricot and white. They all worked nicely together being well washed (and used) so being soft despite the rather coarse/rough weave.I think I showed the trial block last week - well that's the top done - 1 shirt, 1/2 apricot linen, 1 white linen

old shirts

Apart from that there hasn't been happening much - I got a few more Bee blocks, I guess I will need a second design wall. I have half of the June blocks, the purple, orange, red ones and 2 July blocks. But yeah the I didn't really work on those blocks - I mean I just carried them upstairs.

And I finally got around to sew my block for this fortnight (that's 14 days - I got some questiosn so I thought I woudl mention it) of the Landmädel QAL - sunset sewing picked an "easy" block: whirlpool, well I might have to do it again with less HSTs and more flying geese, maybe I will get the seams to mach better.

Landmädel QAL - whirlpool

Ohh well yeah I did start hand sewing the binding to my bluegreenpink quilt - that I'm liking more and more especially the back ...

progress report

Well I thought I would just overwhelm you with pictures - I had quite a busy time. Doing an excursion to Bavaria and then having a tournament on Sunday and a presentation on Monday morning. And now having well no voice anymore. So I've been mostly reading and sulking in bed drinking hot tea with honey not enjoying the almost 28°C at all ...

visiting the library & archive of Thurn und Taxis

I started my Farmer's Wife quilt:

Landmädel QAL - calico puzzle

I made a NewBee Bee block that had the wrong colours so I made another one:

NewBee Bee - June block - bear paw

I started quitling "bluegreenpink"

I started "Spring"

I made a testblock for my month as Queen - and wrote a tutorial on it - sort of - I will still keep calling them "How-to's"

possible bee block
