welcome spring

Since the weekend the weather is sunny and warm - feels almost hot - well ok it's warm enough for skirts with knee-hights and sweatshirts. And did I mention sunny? and it smells like spring, the first things are blooming - daffodils and snow bells and some of those cherry tress that are just for show. Well anyway the whole spring thingy had me sewing a bit more than the no sewing somethign that's not for a swap or a bee ...

ready to wrestle some more

I finally got my monster ready to quilt soem more circles ... just a few more days ... and it could be finished. The other thing I did was work with some wool scraps - very strange thin, flimsy, soft wool. There will be a second set somwhere along the way ... when my sewing machien is free again ...

progress

Well I am making some progress on bluegreenpink - I used the "perfect" backing to bast it, watching Torchwood again, I really need some new DVDs (sadly I have to say the public library here is very backwater about DVDs).

bluegreenpink basted

In the good news department - the time of darkness has started here - it's finally summer and we get to see the sun so to keep the room temperature down the only thing that helps is keep the blinds closed. At least the nights are still cool.Well  I got around and started on one of my projects I put up as my NewFO projects back in January (feels like that was ages ago) - it will be my "Spring"

Spring quilt

I got the first set of Bee blocks this weekend (I asked for 4 6,5" blocks instead of one 12.5" block)

1st set of Bee blocks - June Queen

Have I shown you my "Finnland"-block yet? it's for a trip around the world quilt my May Queen planned. Well I chose her favourite character from the Moomins - Mymble:

BeeBiased - May - travelling around the world

So for June I have a doll quilt and a bee block left to do

February

Ok panic .. no everything is goign to be fine - I have officially to clear my current digs until the end of March - so far I have a meager 3 banana boxes filled - but hey I have 10 empty boxes waiting. So besides having my exams and now having trouble getting my papers because my one "very dear" Prof can't manage to grade the last exam so a lot of runnign around getting "provisional" statements etc etc ohh how I love running after papers .. anyway I did some sewing

I started "bluegreenpink" (wow I'm creative with the names) - it's stored now in the "finished tops" box (ohh yes I already packed that one, together with the "big enough to make a back" fabric)

bluegreenpink
I promise I even sewed the rows together, just forget to take a picture before putting it in the box

I started a Starquilt, it was sort of part of my "want to do list" - I wanted to try out more hand sewing but after I had cut all the pieces (not necessarly like they were given in the pattern - I'm not good with patterns) I figured "hey I can do that with the machine" so I did. Now I need to start another hand sewing project. 10 stars together, how to make them

I started and finished my doll quilt for February - and since it arrived during the weekend I can even do a post how about it - I need to do the "get things done early" more often so I don't need to wait until the next month ... I even remembered to do a lable (sorry that is on the back of course).

DQM - 2013/02

That's it as far as the NewFO sewign went - I did work on a few old things so I just have to show them off - because one of them was really giving me a headache.
I managed to finish my Easy Street top (yeah you guessed it - it's in the box too)

Easy Street top
my sewing machien looks so tiny ...

I attacked my scrap quilt again ... well it will one day become a scrap quilt - it's just hard work, but I think worth it.

scrappy bits and pieces

That's all I did - well sewing wise - I think so at least ... I did have some pretty good ice cream yesterday ... but that probably doesn't count towards sewing - it was 3 coloured and basted between to waffles though - it was almost an edible quilt ... it made me bold enough to post a picture of me though - sugar high maybe, not really responsible for my actions...

Pheww that was a lot to read for you ... I might  have ruined my chances of getting comments

Wednesday

Wednesday again - and I just managed to get my January swap mini finished in time. If I hurry with the lable I might have it in the mail by the 31st.

DQS - 2013/01

Sorry for the crappy shots - but with the exams coming up there is one rule down: no sewing before 8:00pm. The horror will start Thursday at 7:30 am - who else could be so cruel than a Latin Prof?

DQS - 2013/01

NewbeeBee - February

my green and purple "garden fence" block for the NewbeeBee

BeeBiased - February

my - not so beautiful - butterfly-ish block for BeeBiased
I didn't attempt any other projects, I didn't look at any other projects though I've been thinking a lot about other projects, so much nicer than grammar or ISO standards ...

Wednesday

I was almost about to forget to share this little beauty with you: It arrived at Lizzie's place well in time to be a Christmas present.

DQS - 2012 - 11

[hand pieced and hand quilted]

This was one of those "never ever again" quilts that make you love doing them but you are afraid to ever get the urge to do another one ...

I'm working on:
Walk the line
D9P
Easy Street - Step 3,4,5

Ticker Tape

And I need to get started on:
  •  a "snow themed" mini quilt for January
  •  a butterfly block for February
  • start Hand Quilting Trial 2

Wednesday

This is a mixed post - I should be packing, I'm going home tomorrow.

But I first had to celebrate with a Pumpkin Pie - my BA thesis is now waiting in line for the two Profs to grade it.It was very delicious, with some whipped cream, Japanese cinnamon tea and a few hours of card games ...

Pumkin Pie

And I got tagged by Catherine from Knotted Cotton I'm not a fan of the chain things, but I will answer her questions of course ..

So - WIP pictures and answers mixed together -I started on the binding for my mum's birthday present:

Beginner's Quilt Along

Why do you blog?
Hmm good question - I don't know anyone sewing that actually lives anywhere close by, I like to get comments that why I do is nice and not get those "aha and what do you sew taht for?" - guestions. Ohh and of course it's a way to use my English, it's one thing to read and watch movies, actually having to write it is harder

What is your favourite thing about blogging?
To discover new ideas, whatch pictures, get to knew random things about other peoples lifes .. I'm curious and nosy. Getting nice comments I can answer to -  that is more than just: "I like the orange", "That is nice"

Would you consider that you are the same person in real life?
No - absolutely not ... I'm much nicer on the internet, but that's probably becuase it's easier to ignore not so well liked individuals. But my tendency to start babbling is always there - not always to my advantage.

I finished and sent of some bee blocks:

Mosaik

What would you change in your life, if you could?
Hmm my life hasn't been long yet, there aren't really any bad choices I wish I could change. Except - I would want to go back to my 18th birthday and not make my mum so mad that she refused to make a cake (I had a talent for that)

Where is your favourite place to be?
Ohh that is a hard one, anywhere with mountains and forrest around could become a favourite place - I'm just not made for flat coasts ... I always love the sense of "feeling whole and home" when my train goes through the first mountainy region while travelling towards "home".

Do you admire anyone (historical or contemporary) and why?
My mum, she put up with me for 21 years - I'm not always easy
A historical person - well I think there are too many amazing people that just made a living and went by completely unnoticed, so I don't think I want to pick anyone famous.

I came a litle fiurther on a secret swap item:

DQS

What would you do, given sufficient funds?
I want a house with enough land for a huge garden, a small part near the back door with vegetables and a big orchard further back. Ohh and some sheep ... Ohh and all of that preferably in cycling distance to a workplace - just in case I run out of funds.

What makes you happy?
Very philosophical - making others happy .... on a lower scale - running around in a warm downpour during a summer thunder storm, go sledging in winter, build snowmen, have someone do the dishes after I cooked ... a cup of hot chocolate and a good book in the evening ...

What is your favourite food?
That is a righ out mean question - how am I to decide, I love chocolate sure, but always chocolate - no thanks. I  enjoy traditional Swabian dishes (don't feel bad if you don't know any), I like lasagna, I like porridge, I like vanilla ice cream with hot raspberries ... ohh I could write down a nearly endless list. I do not like most of the innards, I'm no potato fan and I do not like leek soup. Oh and I'm a bit vary of seafood.

Ohh and I got talked into joining a QAL (now that I'm almost doen with my first - see the birthday present) - so I picked the colours, I just forgot to put the orange on the pile ...

Easy street

Have you ever had an adventure?
Ohh sure - well for me they were adventures.

What is the thing you've done of which you are most proud?
I have not the slightest idea - I don't think I ever really did anything special, I jsut do what needs to be done ...

And the tag asked for eleven random (11) things about myself
1 I'm a bookworm
2 I own far too many DVDs
3 I enjoy a good beer
4 I love driving a tractor
5 I write tons of snail mail
6 I don't like telephones
7 I can't decide between tea and coffee
8 I will be done with my Bachelor in Spring
9 I like dark bread with butter and raspeberry jam
10 I wear woolen socks in the months with an "r" unless it's really really warm

11 I collect all sorts of things

Oh my that is one wordy post - sorry.
