Scrap busting for scrap storage

I don't have much time to do sewing at the moment - but then when did I ever?
I was a but unhappy with all the different boxes and fabric all over the place and I am goign to have to sew a basket for a swap in June following the Hour Basket pattern so I thought conscentious sewer that I am I would do a trial run.
Miraculously the basket fit perfectly in the middle shelf of my sewing shelves ... so I just couldn't stop until I had a row of scrappy scrap baskets for my most common scrap colours.

mindless sewing

Since I'm finally able to really grip things - namely my rotary cutter - again I thought it ws time to get sewing - all the reading was really nice, but I really missed the sewing. And before you ask- let's just say: sport is not healthy. Nature has an amazing range of blues, browns, pruples and yellows ...
But I'm a little preoccupied with those stupid papers - well one of them is actually interessting - but the other urghh ... So yeah I decided to go for some "mindless sewing", no need to aim for matching seams, no danger of messing up a pattern.

It's like making a huge fabric puzzle - it's just that the pieces change everytime - here the middle part is paired up for another round of string piecing. It's still "tiny" but it's getting there ... slowly I just need to keep producing scraps. Or have lovely Ladies send them to me ..

Yeah and of course I absolutely forgot to show the newest Bee-Block arrivals and the Doll Quilt for July ..
Saddly one of the bee blocks is an inch too small - and an inch is not something easily smoothed over so - ahh well we are a 13 persons bee anyway so I will end up with 12 blocks. Oh and good news my missing June bee turned up, she promised to send the missing blocks as soon as possible.

As I mentioned before - my swap partner and me both decided against the usual patriotic theme of red-blue-white. Not that I have anything against those colours, but I don't really need a July 4th Quilt. We settled on baskets.

Ok panic .. no everything is goign to be fine - I have officially to clear my current digs until the end of March - so far I have a meager 3 banana boxes filled - but hey I have 10 empty boxes waiting. So besides having my exams and now having trouble getting my papers because my one "very dear" Prof can't manage to grade the last exam so a lot of runnign around getting "provisional" statements etc etc ohh how I love running after papers .. anyway I did some sewing

I started "bluegreenpink" (wow I'm creative with the names) - it's stored now in the "finished tops" box (ohh yes I already packed that one, together with the "big enough to make a back" fabric)

I promise I even sewed the rows together, just forget to take a picture before putting it in the box

I started a Starquilt, it was sort of part of my "want to do list" - I wanted to try out more hand sewing but after I had cut all the pieces (not necessarly like they were given in the pattern - I'm not good with patterns) I figured "hey I can do that with the machine" so I did. Now I need to start another hand sewing project. 10 stars together, how to make them

I started and finished my doll quilt for February - and since it arrived during the weekend I can even do a post how about it - I need to do the "get things done early" more often so I don't need to wait until the next month ... I even remembered to do a lable (sorry that is on the back of course).

That's it as far as the NewFO sewign went - I did work on a few old things so I just have to show them off - because one of them was really giving me a headache.
I managed to finish my Easy Street top (yeah you guessed it - it's in the box too)

my sewing machien looks so tiny ...

I attacked my scrap quilt again ... well it will one day become a scrap quilt - it's just hard work, but I think worth it.

That's all I did - well sewing wise - I think so at least ... I did have some pretty good ice cream yesterday ... but that probably doesn't count towards sewing - it was 3 coloured and basted between to waffles though - it was almost an edible quilt ... it made me bold enough to post a picture of me though - sugar high maybe, not really responsible for my actions...

Pheww that was a lot to read for you ... I might  have ruined my chances of getting comments

snow angel

Well it has been snowing a lot lately here and not much thawing for the last few days - so I figured I got myself a great huge white playground ---

I told Janet the other day that I love doing snow angels - I had noone with me, so there was noone being embarassed if I did one. Well I made the angel in a beautiful spot in the botanic garden ...

(sorry I had to play aroudn with the exposure time to make the angel visible, it got a little dark)

Well of course I did a lot of sewing too - it's amazing how much time I suddenly have - I got my 10 pink and brown stars done ... now I have no idea what to do with them. Can I set in huge hexagons? but then what colours? Or set in more parallelograms? and end up with a small quilt?

Ohh and in an attempt to throw things out that I don't need anymore I had a go at my scrap box (it's just one box, without any order, I just stuff anything in there that's "small").

Happy New Year

Since some lovely people managed to shoot a fireworks racket into a historic building almost burning it to the ground in the town center a few years ago, it's off limits for fireworks. But that only means we have more on the hills surrounding the town.

I hope you all had a nice Christmas and of course the best wishes for a new Year.

I didn't manage to do this last year so I will show the last Christmas finishes now:

It's not completely done yet (and only fits me with a ton of pins at the back - but then it's not for me so it's ok) - please ignore the socks - well I thought it reasonable to wait with the cutting off and marking the seam until the real owner has time to stand model.

A last minute Christmas present for a dress sewer (the only sewer among my friends, though without a clue about quilting and patchwork) - she complained she always sews for others and noone ever sews for her and asked if I could do her a "Finnland themed" cushion case. Well yes I managed somehow.

That's sadly not my cabinet / closet, but it worked fine to drape the finished quilt for a foto shoot without my mom's slippers (she complained about that "problem" so that was the solution).

And I already have a new finish: a bee block - we were asked for (untrimmed) granny squares

And now I need to prepare for the little monsters - my sisters invited themselves for the weekend - any hints on how to keep a 13 and 11 year old occupied and happy?

It's really weird to be done writing, today I will get the last "red version" the final spell check ... so I have been a little bit productive - just to keep me from goign nuts thinking about all the you coulds, and myabe you shoudl haves ...

I got into my first Bee - well actually 3 Bees, but the other two are starting next year. So I sat down and made my blocks. I chose a maverick / wonky star - I was sure I could make them - but I didn' want a big empty space in the middle I made a small star for the center ... and I quite like how they turned out.

some more sewing at last

Having talked both my parents into proof reading my paper (there has to be something positive in them being seperated)  I decided it was time for a sunday off - especially as winter started this weekend.

It's not a lot, but for an area that usually doesn't get a a lot of snow before January it's amazing. (I want to go home I want more snow!!) Mind last weekend we still had about 20°C - that makes it a temperature drop of 20° in a week ... And I won't get my winter gear before November 15th. Well I will just have to use the onion princip and layer my jumpers...

I was in a cleanung mood - I took care of all those HSTs that  I had left from a Depression Block for a swap - and as I wanted the block I sent to stay unique I added the green framing - I sort of like it. Though next time I will remember to make the framing a bit wider ...

And I did a major clean up in the scrap department. I just sewed pieces together as I pulled them out of the box, then a little ironing trimming and more adding scraps ...

I also added a cheddar border to my Barn Bats - but just in case my swap partner suddenly decides to wander around all the blogs - the picture will have to wait.

And I ordered a lot of batting - I need to start sandwitching ...  good bye new Castle DVD you will have to wait for next month ...
