more green and a winner

spring green

I couldn't resist to post a few more pictures of the garden greens - false forget-me-nots doing lovely in their shady corner
giveaway

But yes of course - the winner needs to be determined - I wish the number would have been lower it, so Iwouldn't have to count all the way to 96.

And No. 96 is:

Love them and need them! thanks for the chance!!

a very special green - grandma's grapes ...

And for a green finale - a very special litle green splot - that is a very hardy very sweet grape from granny's garden, we "borrowed a few cut offs in autumn and waited for months to finally see this.

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day

All things green . . . are mine

August

I do love the garden ... not only because it's green, because it needs working in winter too and thenit's either muddy gray brown or snow white, so there must be more to it, maybe the strawberries, or the raspberries ... but also because of all the green, the shades the textures ....

miniature wedding ring - getting rid of those ugly ends

Some of what I sew is green too - but mostly it's not - it is one of my  favourite colours, but it's a complicated colour. And anyway if you plan on sewing in green you are goign to end up with red or blue or yellow, it's like buying clothes, you o because you need trousers and you will end up with shirts and sweaters, well really anything but trousers.

I decided to share a little green with you and went through my cupboard to pick out a small collection:

In time for Christmas

The Quitlign Gallery is doing a give away again .. and as I never got around to do one back in July for my birthday well I guess this is my chance.

As usual I have no idea what to give away - which is another reason I so rarely do them ...well life is busy so you just get some fabrics - well one of  your ... some christmassy FQs for the upcoming season ...

christmassy fabrics ...

fine print

* 1 entry per person
* tell me something nice about a library or a bookstore or a book... and maybe your current read
* shipping international, so I will fill the envelope using a scale, so could be 5 or 6 FQs depending on the weight

I know you will be busy just clicking on one blog after the other - and because I don't like hoops you don't need to start following me anywhere. I doubt I would have time to keep up with the comments if I suddenly got a lot of followers. Feel free to come back later - you are all clever ladies and gentlemen, you can find bloglovin and RSS buttons or do old-fashioned bookmarking .. or just don't

catching up, a winner and good news

I manage to catch up on last weeks hint of Easy Street - and will probably fall behind again on this weeks hint.

Easy Street 2

well I actually have all sewn now and 30 are trimmed and "stapled"

Easy Street 2

As I was on the phone with my mum and we were looking for a topic that wouldn't get us to yell at each other I thought Iwould ask for a number betwen 0 and 28 (hoping she wouldn't choose 0 or 28) and she picked the 16.

That makes Janet our winner: "Sometimes I buy Quilting Arts magazine because it has interesting patterns and shows different techniques for working with fabric and embellishments. Otherwise I only buy the occasional magazine."

Noone really wanted to ask questions - well I know everyone is busy entering and running to the next blog - but I actually had 1 Person ask soemthing, and that person happens to be a no-reply logger so I guess Iwill answer here:
So first what do you call that star above it's woven but what pattern did you use or did you create it yourself?
Well that star is an "unfinished" Fröbelstern (Fröbel Star) which is originally made from paper. I have been making those stars for ages, I didn't really use a pattern, but I know there are (several hundred) tutorials out there on how to make them.
Second what is your favorite wild color combo? I personally like Bright orange and gray and purple and gray.
Hmm I would not say that anything mixed with gray is wild - gray itself is a basic, mute colour. I will go for dark pine tree green and ruby red, or my eggplant purple and orange orange. (Though there are a lot more of those combos out there those are the ones I dream about)

Ducks

Ahh the good news part - I get to sew a quilt and I actually will get paid for the material, I struck a deal with mum (yes soemtimes we have quite civilised conversations), though it's eventually around a few corners not her that's paying me. The quilt goes to a a mother who just got the single custody for her children (2 boys) and a baby girl, a preemy who was put into emergency foster care a few weeks ago. Well she asked me if I could imagine doing something special she could give the mother if (and that was a big IF back then) she got her girl back. That's making me really nervous. You could say that's quilting for a good cause ... Well she settled on a baby/ kid quilt/ playmat

And I finally managed to stitch the label and attach it for November and wrap everything nicely and send it off to Sweden: (Don't you love that racing car wrapping paper?)

Ribbonry - double rainbow

I won this pattern ages ago at a give away and as I'm waiting for batting to finish other tops I thought why not start catching up on aptterns I saved up to make. And as I was given this pattern, it was quite high on my list.
I got the pattern from Candice at The Double Nickl Quilt Challenge

I started fabric picking and cutting in the morning .. then headed out for the afternoon and then did some late night sewing. You can see / guess my Iranian fig (right) and my purple chilli (left) on the window sill.

ribbonry

Well and this morning I was ready to assemble the whole thing - I think I found two points or so taht aren't matching, but I'm not going to repair that - it will just be a sign of "hand made".

ribbonry

Now I just wander wheather I shoudl keep it or let someone else have a joy with it... my sisters might both like it, maybe I should make two of them? but can I make identical gifts? ohh well I coudl make different backings - but can I manage that until Christmas? ahh you see decisions and more decisions...

Yes today is the day to announce the winner for the "Back to School Blog Hop Give Away" (that is an awfully long title).

I feel really really really really .... really bad that I can only name one winner. I hope all of you had a great time visiting all the blogs - I enjoyed reading your local food and of course the "special reason"-comments were really great. If I didn't reply to your comment, I'm very very sorry, there were so many I tried my best, but I'm just a human being.

And that is: (tatatatada .. drum roll etc)

Coffee, Coffee and more Coffee drinks. Good thing I love coffee. As for a food probably fresh crisp Washington Apples. And what about all those chocolate bars. Yum Chocolate!

If you want to visit PJ - she blogs on off Avondale Road  you could always try to sweet talk her into shareing with you. If not I can offer post cards to those who didn't make it - that's a sort of a I have to do somehting not to feel too bad offer - or to say it in German a "Trostpreis" (consolation prize).

the holidays are over giveaway

I'm joining in for the - well I find it a rather dpressing reason - back to school give away blog hop that Michelle from the Quilting Gallery is hosting.

I laways enjoy entering give aways but I do feel a bit guilty doing so wihtout offering a chance in return.

So I still have holidays, sort of, officially, in a way ...  which means at the moment having even less time to do the things I wanto to do. So I didn't make anythign myself for this one.

Back to scholl blog op party and give away

Anyway - what do I have on offer - nothign special really, it's an embroider your own shopping bag kit. It's still in it's original wrapping, so all the parts are still together. I'm not much of an embroiderer myself, I only go as far as to stitch my lables by hand. Ohh and some chocolate if you want, I was home recently and I couldn't resist a trip to "Ritter Sport" and now the fridge is full of chocolate .. dark mousse au chocolate, winter crisp, crisp flakes, white nut ... molten chocolate still tastes like chocolate - for all those in still warm parts of the earth.

chocolate
the white wrapping means try out chocolate varieties for the winter season

The rules etc  (I really enjoy making up rules)
* the one loop you have to jump through I would like to know a traditional dish for the area you come from (I think that is fair)

* and as usual a second entry if you can give me a convincing reason (sorry following me on FB doesn't count I don't have a page there)

* international entries are welcome

* the give away runs from post publishing date (I can't be bothere to find out what time noon EDT is in my time zone) until September 2nd late evening (I'm leaving for a trip on the 3rd and I wouldn't want you to hang in the dry for days not knowing who made the draw)

the holidays came and went

My holidays didn't go as I planned .. I sort of wanted to do nothing and ended up working in the garden nearly every day. I did spend a few minutes every evening to work on the give away (is it bad behaviour to not have it ready when the commenting starts?) I think I intentionally forgot how time consuming it is to sew on all those beads - but it's worth the work. All that's left is stiching the flap secure (the little thingy covering the zipper on the top? is there a name for that?) and of course close it at the sides and maybe add another row of beads at the bottom.

After the holidays is always there is always the big stash of post, there were some quitling books I ordered (I need to limit my time on amazon) and a block from a swap and my Doll Quilt for this month and a shoe box full of sraps from a friend and my leaving gift from my collegues (I have been waiting for that for almost 4 months)

My little Doll Quilt, or rather Sharon's as she made it was nominated for the "Bloggers Quilt Festival" on Amy's Creative Side it's pretty much at the bottom of the page, there are a lot of beautiful quilts to marvel at ... I shouldn't spend too much time there it makes me feel like a bad sewer for not turning out a new quilt every second month and producing tons of cushions, aprons, swap blocks in between ..

Leo

PS: I think I will start my baking adventure with a red velvet cake it did sound most interessting - I'm hunting for a recipe now, if you know one leave a link!

[Edit:] Now I really forgot something Beth at Plum and June started a blog hop tour for new blogs and the first contributions are online so have a look at the list and visit them.

swap arrivals

I have to start with the most recent arrival

Dawn, my Doll Quilt Swap partner sent me the most amazing little Quilt (now I really feel bad about my beginners Quilt - even though I almost liked it when I sent it off)

Dawn included some goodies in her parcel some lovely fabric, and some American candy, and I have to admit I have never heard of them - except for the skittles that I saw in shops in the UK. So tonight I will have a candy tasting.

Some time ago I took part in a give away from Donna and guessed when she would have her 1 millionest visitor on her blog, and surprisingly fast I recieved that charm pack (probably that fast because it got the green tag meaning no need for a customs officer to check)

The owls are a note pad cover swap (the old fashioned kind made from paper) plus some great goodies from Sabine.

And I figured me sewing for a swap fits here too - that's what I did today a disappearing 9 patch in fall colours (I really had trouble finding fall colours)

My Place and Yours - outside and a winner

Ok this is a bit cruel, but I will do the My Place and Yours  first. This time it's a very broad topic "something we see everyday outside". So I took my camera with me this morning, and walked into town rather than use the Tram (street train). The first thing I met when stepping out the of the door and turning towards the town center was the newest supplies for the building side next door:

me and some for this town rahter unusual cobble stones on the side walk, but they reminded me a lot of home (left) and the more tradtional health-hazard side walks (right) massive granite slides, very slippery when wet, not really even most of the time, and tiny red cobble stones to fill in the gaps.

Tram cables in the sky, you can see the way all the shadows go, that's the reason why I didn't take pictures in the direction of "out of town" though I might manage to do that later, because it gets really interessting there, the old fair buldings, the National Library, some monuments and very interessting churches (the Russian orthodox one in particular)

The "town castle" as the locals call it. It's the new town hall, there is an old one next to the market place, and there is one of the newer Trams, they are traditionally yellow and blue (together with some gray) (left) and an example of one of the thousands of miles of building side fencing (right) there is a lot of that here, but the reason would need a post on its own.

and now I have to announce the winner of the "St. Patrick's Day Give-away" (I still haven't quite figured out how to spell give away, give-away, giveaway). Mrs. Random decided it was No.19. So count, count, count and I come tot conclusion that No. 19 is Gill who is a new follower. The mail is out and I'm waiting for the snail mail details.

So here I have to thank all of you for taking part in the Blog Hop fun, and for all the great hints and tips and ideas on my birthday present probelm.
